Just a hop, skip and a jump away from some of the best ski resorts in America, Carson City is home to plenty of tourists looking to shred the slopes. If you're flying into Reno, it's about a 30-minute drive and only another 30 minutes from Heavenly Ski Resort.
When it comes to food options, there's plenty of great places to check out in Carson. Here's a look at our 5 favorite places to get a great meal in town.
Flat Earth Pizza
This is not one of those light, airy, "I'm still hungry should we get another slice" type of pizzas. Flat Earth Pizza will leave you full and satisfied to the max. It's packed with flavor, just the right amount of tang in the sauce, and comes straight out of the brick oven. We visited last week and we're still thinking about it.
Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint
Placed conveniently right between the historic Carson Hot Springs and Shoe Tree Brewery, Sassafras is full of surprises (the good kind). Their burgers are never frozen, the fries are the best in the city, and if you're having trouble ordering there's really only one thing to do:
Get the Fried Cheese Cheeseburger. You will not regret it.
Villa Basque Deli
If you're coming to the Villa Basque Deli for the first time, you should know that you'll be back. You should also know that the Basque-style chorizo is a unique favorite that we can't get enough of. The paella and the breakfast, in general, are also worth your time.
Whether you're in the mood for a pretzel-twist stuffed with honey mustard caramelized onions and sausage, meat-lovers pizza, pork belly burnt ends, or just a darn good burger, The Union satisfies. The beer, of course, is a stand out as well.
San Marcos Grill
Home to authentic, traditional, delicious Mexican cuisine - in our minds its the best in Carson City. The house specialty is the Lava Rock Molcajete, served in a fire rested lava stone bowl. You can go for the seafood mix or the meat trio - neither will disappoint.
